Enemies to Lovers

Why We Love It: The slow burn. The chemistry. The tension. Watching two people who can't stand each other evolve into something beautiful makes for some of the most compelling storytelling in fantasy. Whether it’s building trust or challenging each other to grow, the enemies-to-lovers trope gives us a front-row seat to emotional transformation.

Emotional Truth: Love is rarely smooth sailing. Sometimes, we need to learn how to trust, understand, and let go of past hurt before we can open up to someone. This trope shows us that love isn’t always instant—it grows, deepens, and heals through vulnerability and shared experiences.

Watch Out For: When hate starts turning into something toxic. Healthy relationships are built on mutual respect, not on constant conflict or manipulation. The line between passion and toxic behavior can blur if not handled with care. Pay attention to whether the characters learn from their animosity or let it destroy them.

Grumpy x Sunshine

Why We Love It: It’s the perfect balance of light and dark. The grumpy character is often dealing with inner turmoil, while the sunshine character brings light, optimism, and joy to their life. The emotional payoff when the grumpy character softens is incredibly satisfying. Plus, we love seeing opposites attract and finding warmth in the coldest hearts.

Emotional Truth: Healing often happens when we least expect it. Sometimes we’re all a little grumpy, tired, or emotionally closed off. But love—especially from someone who sees the good in us—can help us open up and embrace joy again. It reminds us that no matter how stormy our world may feel, there’s always room for light.

Watch Out For: It’s easy to fall into the trap of trying to “fix” someone. No one should feel like they have to change for love. A healthy relationship is about supporting growth, not demanding it or sacrificing who you are to “help” the other person.

Fated Mate / Soul Bond

Why We Love It: The sheer intensity. The idea that two people are meant to be together, that their souls are bound in ways beyond their control, gives us a deep sense of connection and destiny. The bond between fated mates is often unshakeable, a powerful force that transcends time and space. There’s something beautifully romantic about the notion that this person is your other half, and together, you’re unstoppable.

Emotional Truth: True connection goes beyond physical attraction. It’s about finding someone who completes you—who understands you in ways no one else can. The fated mate trope reminds us that love can be deeper than mere chance, and that sometimes, we don't need to search for love because it finds us.

Watch Out For: The idea of "fate" shouldn't be used to excuse unhealthy dynamics or dependency. The notion of a soul bond should be about mutual growth and respect, not possessiveness or control. Make sure both individuals have the space to grow and thrive together in the bond.

Touch Her & Die

Why We Love It: The growl. The glare. The silent promise of absolute destruction if anyone dares threaten her. There’s something deeply satisfying about the moment a powerful, emotionally reserved character finally chooses someone to protect—completely, unconditionally, and without apology. This trope gives us the fantasy of fierce devotion paired with restraint. He’s not just protective—he’s hers.

Emotional Truth: This trope resonates because deep down, many of us crave to feel safe, seen, and deeply defended. Not in a possessive way—but in a you matter so much that I’d fight for your peace kind of way. “Touch her and die” isn’t just about violence—it’s about love that holds firm, love that safeguards, love that shows up when it counts.

Watch Out For: Possession is not protection. This trope loses its magic when it veers into toxic control. The real emotional power here lies in respectful loyalty, not dominance. If someone’s love feels more like a cage than a shield, it’s not love—it’s fear disguised as romance.

The Strong, Silent Type

Why We Love It: He doesn’t speak much, but when he does—every word lands like thunder. This character is all restraint, controlled emotion, and devastating quiet intensity. We’re drawn to the silent strength, the loyalty shown in actions, not words. There’s magic in knowing someone feels deeply, even when they don’t always say it.

Emotional Truth: Not everyone loves loudly. Some people show up in quiet, consistent ways: through protection, presence, or that one sentence whispered in the dark that tells you everything. This trope reminds us that vulnerability doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful. Emotional safety often starts with just being there.

Watch Out For: Silence shouldn’t mean shutdown. There’s a fine line between emotional depth and emotional unavailability. Love thrives on communication, even if it’s slow and steady. Make sure the quiet isn’t masking disconnection.

He Falls First

Why We Love It: There’s something swoon-worthy about watching a character fall for someone before they’ve even noticed. He’s already choosing her. Already watching her. Already breaking his own rules because her happiness matters more. This trope hits because it lets us witness the quiet unraveling of a guarded heart—before the love interest even realizes it’s happening.

Emotional Truth: This trope speaks to something tender and universal: the longing to be loved before we’re ready to love ourselves. When someone sees your potential, your strength, your softness—before you do—it’s a powerful reminder that we’re often more worthy than we realize.

Watch Out For: The fantasy only works when it becomes mutual. One-sided devotion can quickly slip into martyrdom. Real love is about showing up for someone—but also letting them choose to show up back.

"Should I get the wingleader?"

If you know…you’ve come to the right place! And if you have no idea what I’m talking about, you will soon enough.

I have recently been through a very powerful journey of healing and self discovery and a lot of that happened as I escaped into some of the best fantasy books I have ever read. It was through these books that I rediscovered, not only my passion for reading (and my newly discovered passion for all things romantasy), but also the pieces of myself that I lost over the last few years. These books and the bonds I have formed through them have helped me find ways to see my past more clearly, forgive myself for the mistakes I made, and find the happiness I hadn’t even realized I was missing.

These books have played such a huge role in my journey, that I decided I wanted to use them to connect with other people like me. Maybe you are a fantasy fan and you’re looking for that same connection. Maybe you are going through what feels like the lowest time in your life and you just need an escape from your current reality. (That’s how this all started for me.) Maybe you are having the world’s worst book hangover after finishing Onyx Storm and you are dying to reread and relive the entire Empyrean Series while you wait for the next book to come out! Whatever the reason, I am here for you!

This blog is for all of the above and more. The fantasy book lovers of the world are some of my favorite people and I am thrilled at the opportunity to be a part of this community by sharing my story, spreading my love of these books, and maybe helping a few people along the way. I am so happy you are here to embark on this journey with me. So hop on your dragon and let's fly!
